SERVING OUR COMMUNITY ~ The Salt Springs area is unique due to its coverage by a number of law enforcement agencies, including the Florida Highway Patrol, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, U.S. Forest Service, and the Marion County Sheriff's Office. In Marion County, the Sheriff's Office is divided into 14 districts, each having a commander, a detective and at least eight deputies. Salt Springs is located in the Northeast District, and our local office is located on CR 316, adjacent to the Community Park. Districts are based on calls received rather than geographic size, which is why the Northeast District is the largest in the Sheriff's Office. The Northeast District covers 344 square miles, stretching from the shores of Lake George & the St. John's River west almost to Sparr & Citra, and from the Ocklawaha River south to FR 46 (old FR 10). The Northeast District Commander is Lieutenant Dennis Chesser and the office is staffed M-F from 8am-5pm by secretary Judy Collier (Judy recently celebrated her 35th anniversary with the Sheriff's Office, much of which has been in Salt Springs). If you would like to learn more about the Marion County Sheriff's Office and the Northeast District, please visit their website at www.marionso.com.
DON'T FORGET TO VOTE AUG 24th ~ Marion County Circuit Court Judge Robert W. Hodges was the guest speaker at the Civic Association Meeting on June 21st. Judge Hodges is getting out into the communities in Marion County to inform of his reelection run in August. Judge Hodges was a prosecuting attorney for 17 years prior to being appointed to the Circuit Court in 2007. Since then, he has presided over more than 4,000 juvenile cases, and over 1,000 domestic violence cases in Marion, Lake, Citrus, Sumter and Hernando Counties. Additionally, he has worked to streamline our justice system to reduce backlogs by keeping cases on track. Judge Hodges is seeking your vote, on August 24th; please get out and vote to help keep things on-track in Marion County.
