STARTING IN OCTOBER ~

The 'Salt Springs Community News' will be BIGGER and BETTER than ever! As part of the expansion, and in an effort to off-set the expense of producing this monthly publication, we will be offering advertising space for local residents and businesses. Ads will be business-card-sized and will cost $5.00 per month ...and, in addition to being in the print version of the newsletter, those who advertise will also have their information listed on the Official 'Salt Springs' Website, at www.SaltSpringsFL.com!

So, if you'd like to "reach-out" to the community, be sure to contact the Association by the 1st of the month with your listing information. And, if you have any questions, please contact us at 352-537-2871 or SaltSpringsFL@yahoo.com. Thank you!

 FOCUSED ON THE COMMUNITY ~

Since being 'voted into office' in April 2010, the new Civic Association Board has been working to reconnect with the community and revive some forgotten local activities, such as the Fall & Spring Festivals, and we're adding some new events too!

As part of our on-going efforts, the Association has expanded the 'Official' Salt Springs website, revamped the old Civic Association Sign on Hwy 19, installed a new Community Bulletin Board at the Square, and has developed this, the 'Salt Springs Community News', a monthly publication available at local businesses.

This Association's primary focus is working for the betterment of the community, and assisting local residents in need through our newly formed 'Helping Hands' Assistance Program (a group effort with local churches, the VFW in Salt Springs, and the Marion County Sheriff's Office). We are also responsible for maintenance of the Community Park on Hwy 316, which currently includes basketball, tennis, baseball, horseshoes, playground, picnic area, and walking trail... and our plans for expansion include soccer, football & volleyball. The Community Park is already an ideal place for residents and visitors to come together ...for fitness & family fun... and, the Association plans to make it even better!

Although the Association has the desire to make things happen, we cannot do it alone... in addition to financial assistance from the community, we also need volunteers to work side-by-side with us. If you have a desire to make Salt Springs even better, we'd love to have you on our team!

Civic Association Membership is open to all individuals, businesses & organizations, and we invite you to join us at our monthly meetings as we discuss community concerns, as well as plans for the future of Salt Springs. Membership is $12 per calendar year, per individual, business or organization, and we gratefully accept tax-deducible donations of any amount -- to be used for the betterment of the community and its residents.

So, Please... Help Us Help the Community! Thank you and hope to see you at our Monthly Meeting.

CITIZENS ON PATROL ~

The Marion County Sheriff's Office currently has approximately 1500 volunteers serving in various capacities; our largest volunteer effort is in our Citizens Patrol group, which helps patrol the County in cars marked 'CITIZEN PATROL'. These volunteers are simply an extra set of eyes within the community and, should they see something suspicious, they do not act on their own, but call for a deputy.

Our Citizens Patrol groups are divided into two areas; Community Crime Watch and Citizens on Patrol (COPS). Both groups have essentially the same function; to enhance the visibility of law enforcement within our community. Our volunteers provide thousands of hours on patrol, in addition to our paid deputies, and some volunteers also help with office functions, such as covering for the secretary while she eats lunch.

Currently, our Northeast COPS group has 24 active members, which operate out of the Salt Springs office. We are actively seeking additional volunteers which, after passing a background investigation, will receive training in their duties, as well as how to react in different situations. This training is completed through DVD courses, and 'one-on-one' time with an experienced volunteer. We are also seeking the donation of a boat for patrols of Lake Kerr and the vicinity. If you or someone you know has a working pontoon boat that you would like to donate and/or is interested in volunteering for the COPS group, please stop by our office on CR316 or call 402-6010. Any/all donations are greatly appreciated, and are tax-deductible. Thank you.
